More than 100 parents and students explored Pequea Elementary School Wednesday night for a showcase of students’ talents. Called STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), the event was an opportunity for students to display their artwork, science projects and experiments, math skills and musical abilities.

Halls were lined with tables and walls filled with student projects completed throughout the school year. Small groups of instrumentalists performed in the hallways as visitors milled around, and the school’s music ensembles performed in the auditorium.

The purpose of the event, now in its second year, was to culminate a year of academic growth with a community celebration of science, the arts and learning.

“The music performances by Mrs. Hamer’s ensembles were a hit, and the laboratory area with the science fair was buzzing with excited scientists showing off their projects,” said Kevin Bower, a sixth-grade Pequea teacher who helped organize the event.

“It was great to see the students leading their families around the school, excited to show their work and their peers’ creations.”
