Nearly 40 Penn Manor High School student athletes were honored May 12 during the Senior Sports Awards banquet in the high school cafeteria.

The top athletic awards went to Cody Simet and Greta Lindsley, recipients of the All-Around Male and Female Athlete awards, and Charlie Bell and Rachel Suter, who received the Outstanding Male and Female Athlete awards.

Cody was a first-team Section 1 All-Star as a Comets pitcher. He led the team with a 5-1 record, compiled an earned-run average of 1.11 and threw three shutouts – against Wilson (2-0), Conestoga Valley (7-0), and Cedar Crest (4-0).

Greta was undefeated in every cross-country race in which she ran and was the league champion all four years of her career.  She excelled at the district and state level of competition, finishing as high as 8th in the state championship. In track & field, Greta set new school and class records for the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs and was the league champion in 10 events across four years. She finished as high as 2nd in the state 1,600-meter championship.

Charlie ranks as Penn Manor’s all-time leader in total touchdowns and rushing touchdowns. This past season, he played H-back, flanker, tailback, fullback and quarterback and even kicked a field goal. He led the league’s Section 1 in rushing (1,218 yards) and touchdowns (22) and set a school record for rushing in a single game (257 yards).

Rachel led the L-L League in scoring in field hockey and was named a league first team All-Star and All-League player, as well as League Co-Player of the Year. In her career, she helped the Comets earn four Section 1 titles, three league titles, one District 3 title, one PIAA runner-up finish and one PIAA final four appearance.

Also honored at the banquet was bowling coach Chris Vital, who was named Penn Manor Coach of the Year. Vital guided the Comets to the best record in the Lancaster-Lebanon League this past season. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams earned medals in the state bowling tournament.

Congratulations to all Penn Manor student athletes and best wishes on your future athletic and academic endeavors!
