It’s time to get your pink on!

Penn Manor School District is participating in a Pink Out drive to raise money for cancer research and support groups.

All fall sports teams will be selling T-shirts to support this cause. In addition, a district-wide Pink Out dress-down day will be held Oct. 10.

Last year, Penn Manor students, staff, families and community members raised more than $14,000 to benefit such organizations as the American Cancer Society, Help the Fight, the Ann Barshinger Cancer Center and the LG Health Cancer Support Fund.

This year, Penn Manor athletic director Jeff Roth has been named Pink Ambassador and has agreed to wear a pink tutu if the Comets field hockey team raises $1,000 or more. In addition, girls’ volleyball coach Tim Joyce will shave his head if his team raises $2,000 or more.

Athletes are taking orders for Pink Out shirts, which urge people to “Fight Like a Comet” to wipe out cancer. A printable order form is available below. Shirts also will be sold for $10 apiece during lunches in the Penn Manor High School cafeteria.

Sports teams will be accepting donations and taking T-shirt orders at all home games. They also have designated the following contests as Pink Out games, where additional money will be raised through bake sales and other activities.

Volleyball – 9/23
Tennis – 9/24
Field hockey and boys’ soccer – 10/2
Football/cheerleading – 10/10 (homecoming game)

Please consider supporting this worthwhile cause!
