Martic Elementary School honored the men and women who have served in the U.S. military during a Veterans Day ceremony Monday.
The entire student body and staff took part in the event, which featured the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard and the Martic Chorus. The honor guard displayed the flag of each branch of the military, and the chorus sang the theme songs of each branch.
Speaker Michael McDonald explained the significance of Veterans Day to the students and led the audience in the singing of the National Anthem and “God Bless America.”
Veterans and active-duty military were asked to stand so they could be recognized for their service.
The ceremony closed with Martic students reciting the poem “Free,” which celebrates the freedoms that all Americans enjoy, thanks to the sacrifices of others.
Veterans Day is Nov. 11.
