Professionals from seven different fields demonstrated the tools of their trade for Hambright Elementary students during Career Day Friday.

Held in the school’s fifth- and sixth-grade Commons, the event gave fifth-graders in Jocelyn Hockley’s class a chance to get some hands-on experience in a variety of fields. Presenters included a physical therapist, photographer, nurses, executive chef, firefighter, police officers and a veterinarian technician.

“I like that my students get to participate in hands-on activities and actually get to experience some of the aspects of these professionals’ daily jobs,” Hockley said.

Leading up to Friday’s event, the students talked about their career goals and how they relate to the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, which are incorporated into the school culture at Hambright. The habits include being proactive, having a plan, listening before you talk, working together and putting first things first.

This week, the students are completing a journal response about what they learned on Friday, their favorite part of the day and how they can relate the Seven Habits to their future goals.
