Penn Manor will celebrate the reopening of Pequea Elementary School with a rededication and open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at the school. Matthew Stem, Pennsylvania Deputy Secretary of Education, will provide the keynote address during the 2 p.m. rededication.
Following the ceremony, the school, at 802 Millwood Road, Willow Street, will be open for self-guided tours until 4 p.m. A school picnic will be held on the school grounds until 5 p.m. All events are open to the public.
Pequea was closed for the 2015-2016 school year as workers completed an $11.8 million renovation. The project included expanding the main lobby; adding two academic commons areas for instruction; enlarging and upgrading the kitchen; renovating the library and playground; and upgrading mechanical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and lighting systems.
The school exterior, classrooms and halls also were renovated, and school bus and vehicle drop-off areas were improved to increase safety. In addition, the parking lot was expanded, and natural lighting was increased throughout the building.
