Aevidum and TeenHope are sponsoring an event designed to raise awareness of mental health issues in schools throughout Lancaster County in a very colorful way.
The ColorBlast 5K run will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 21 at Manor Middle School. The noncompetitive event is open to all age groups of runners, who will be blasted with brightly colored cornstarch powder. Participants are encouraged to wear as much white clothing as possible to provide a canvas for the nontoxic powder “paint.”
The registration fee is $25, which includes a T-shirt. Participants who register by Sept. 5 also will receive a pair of sunglasses. The run is open to all ages, but will be limited to the first 1,000 runners. All participants must register prior to the race.
ColorBlast proceeds will benefit the Aevidum student organization and TeenHope, a program that screens students for depression and suicide risk. Aevidum, with chapters at Penn Manor High School and Manor and Marticville middle schools, creates an environment in which students feel supported and are encouraged to talk about depression and mental illness.
The ultimate goal of both organizations is to prevent suicides.
