Superintendent Michael Leichliter sent home a letter to parents of Pequea Elementary School students today notifying them of suspicious activity at a bus stop this morning. Here is the text of the letter:

September 5, 2014

Dear Parent/Guardian:

It was reported today that a thin, white male with reddish-blond hair in his late 20s and driving a dark green, late-model SUV approached a Pequea Elementary student at a bus stop. The individual asked the student where she lived and then asked for assistance with his personal cellphone. The student appropriately refused. The vehicle then left the scene and circled back, approaching the same student a second time. The man again asked for help with his phone. The student immediately left the bus stop and returned home. The incident was reported to the child’s parent as well as to Southern Regional Police and Penn Manor School District.

You are encouraged to contact Southern Regional Police Department at 717-872-0352 or dial 911 if you observe this vehicle and/or individual.  The Penn Manor staff and bus drivers also have been alerted to this situation. You are encouraged to speak with your child about appropriately responding to strangers. Thank you for your help in keeping all children safe.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the principal at your child’s school.

Sincerely,

Michael G. Leichliter, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
